We all had a strong feeling that Taylor Swift’s new album The Tortured Poets Department would include lyrical references to her six-year relationship with ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn, but even Swifties were taken aback upon the revelation that there may be rumoured digs at another one of her British former flames: Matty Healy.

Healy and Swift had a brief fling after her split from Alwyn in 2023. As it was such a short-lived romance, some fans were surprised he was even (allegedly) referenced on the album (though the pair did actually meet years ago in 2014, per People).

Netizens believe that songs like “But Daddy I Love Him”, “I Can Fix Him (No Really, I Can), and “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone may be about her short-lived amour with The 1975 frontman, per Cosmopolitan. “I love you, it’s ruining my life, I touched you for only a fortnight … I call you up but you won’t pick up, another fortnight lost in America,” she sings in the latter song.

While it’s unlikely we’ll ever find out who the tunes are about due to Swift’s secrecy around her musical inspirations, that definitely won’t stop fans from speculating.

According to British media, his aunt Debbie Dedes said, “She writes about all her relationships, doesn’t she? I don’t think it will come as a shock to him at all. He’s very happy in his new relationship, so I’m sure he will be focusing on that.”
