Miley Cyrus’ parents Tish and Billy Ray had one of the longest-running marriages in showbiz, having been in an on-and-off relationship from 1993 to 2022.

That’s why fans were shocked when the former couple’s divorce was finalised in April 2022, with both parties moving on quickly and finding new partners to settle down with.

It wasn’t an easy transitional period though – especially for Tish, as she revealed in a new interview. “I’m over 50, I’ll be 57 this year. And when I literally was going through my divorce and trying to make that decision of stepping out of a 30-year marriage, I was terrified, mostly,” she told People last week.

“And she really thought it was over,” her daughter Brandi chimed in.

Tish continued, “No, I thought I was going to be alone forever. And that was one of the times that I had the crippling breakdown of anxiety. I joke about it and say I had a complete psychological breakdown. There were 30 days where I was not eating, sleeping, just felt like I was just coming out of my skin. And it was really scary.”

She said that she understands why women would be scared to leave, as she herself was “terrified”. Now, she has stated that she would love to be a “poster child for women our age” and she “[promises] starting over sometimes is the best thing you can ever do”.

Tish has since found love again with actor Dominic Purcell, with the couple announcing their engagement in April 2023, before tying the knot in August of that year. “We are so happy,” she said in her People interview. “He just encourages me to fly.”
