Meet Anyone But You star Glen Powell’s ‘rowdy’ Texas family: from his parents acting as extras in his films to wearing matching Top Gun ‘fits and supporting his younger sis’ music
- Powell is rumoured to be seeing Anyone But You co-star Sydney Sweeney, but his dad has said that dating for his son will be difficult, following his break-up with model Gigi Paris earlier this year
- His parents’ 40-year marriage is an inspiration to the 35-year-old actor and they share a close bond together, alongside sisters Lauren and Leslie, who used to tease Powell while growing up
Powell seems to remain grounded while in the limelight thanks to the support of his family. Powell described his parents, Glen Powell Sr and Cyndy, to Nylon in 2014 as a “huge rowdy Texas crew who gets me in all the right kinds of trouble”. Together with his two sisters, Lauren and Leslie, this is the crew Powell calls family.
Family film cameos
If you’re a Powell fan, you’ll know that the actor always tries to get his parents into his films as extras. Per People, Cyndy had a role as an adult spy in Spy Kids 3, a lunch lady in Everybody Wants Some!! and a professor in Jack & Bobby. Both of his parents played a couple walking on the beach in Devotion. His mum also has a role in his latest flick Anyone But You, of course.
Relationship inspiration
In an interview with Bustle, Powell said he looks up to his parents and their relationship. He said his parents have been together for more than four decades and commented on their determination to make things work: “The older I get, the more I look at my parents with awe at the fact that it’s really hard for love to survive 40 years in this world.” Powell broke up with long-time girlfriend Gigi Paris earlier this year.
Powell has admitted it would be difficult for him to date because of his career. Powell Sr confirmed as much, per Bustle, saying, “It will happen, for sure, but it’s a hard thing to see from his perspective. It’s hard [for him] to know what’s real, what’s not.”
Celebrating wins together
It’s no secret that Powell and his parents share a close bond. In the Bustle interview, Powell Sr spoke about how he and Cyndy felt when their son lost the role of Rooster in Maverick – but there were bigger things on the horizon.
