  • This week, So Ching, aka So Tsz-ching, announced her departure from Collar following the horrific accident in which a large monitor fell on her dancer boyfriend Mo Li Kai-yin during a Mirror concert
  • Hong Kong rapper Lucas Wong Yuk-hei also shared that he would be exiting NCT and WayV, with SM Entertainment confirming his ventures into a solo career – so who else has quit their groups?

Cantopop has been making a comeback lately, with groups like 12-piece supergroup Mirror leading the resurgence.

While that local band might still going strong, that doesn’t go for all musical groups. Earlier this week, So Tsz-ching, known professionally as So Ching, announced her departure from the Cantopop group Collar, knocking the eight-member girl group down by one.

This news comes almost 10 months after a large monitor fell on So’s boyfriend, dancer Mo Li Kai-yin, during a Mirror concert. The accident left Li paralysed and bedridden. So, who’s been supportive of her boyfriend’s recovery, shared with fans on Instagram that her departure from Collar is a first step towards protecting her mental and physical health.

While her decision saddens fans, thousands flocked to social media to express support and commend her for putting her wellness first.

Just hours later, Lucas Wong Yuk-hei announced his exit from the Korean boy band NCT and its subunit WayV. His agency SM Entertainment shared that the Hong Kong-born rapper, actor and model would be focusing on his solo career going forward.

Here, we look at five Cantopop groups that saw its members go their separate ways to either retire from the entertainment industry or find success as solo acts.
