8 of Michelle Yeoh’s latest, greatest fashion moments: the Everything, Everywhere All at Once star wore a Dior suit at the Baftas, tweed Chanel at an Oscars event, and Armani at the Golden Globes
It may have taken a while to get there, but at the age of 60, Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh is finally having her moment.
After already winning a Golden Globe for best actress earlier this year, Yeoh’s talents were celebrated once again as she made history at the recent Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards, as the first Asian woman to receive the body’s best actress title. Looking dazzling as ever, Yeoh basked in the spotlight in an avant-garde Schiaparelli gown, unabashed in her glorious win.
Magnetic in her glamour, Yeoh was, well, everything all at once. With body contouring in black fluid velvet and playful sequin ribbon fringes running down the front, Yeoh’s choice of Schiaparelli was reflective of the boldness, style and world-class talent she’s always had in her – and it feels extra nice to finally have this recognised, officially.
She is, after all, one who’s given her all whether on screen or on the red carpet. Below, a rundown of Yeoh’s best fashion moments …
1. Clean and crisp suiting in Dior
Just a few days ago, the 60-year-old attended the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) awards, where she likewise received a best leading actress nomination for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. She arrived in a tailored blush pink suit with exaggerated cape-like sleeves from Dior’s 2018 haute couture collection, with accessories from Moussaieff diamonds and a timepiece by Richard Mille.
2. Full-on flared Chanel
At a pre-Oscars event last month, Yeoh meant business when she landed on the red carpet in a sparkling Chanel tweed suit, baring wide-legged flared trousers that touched the floor, hiding her heels in the process. The ensemble, which she styled with Chanel jewels, comes from the brand’s Métiers d’Art 2023 collection.
3. Old Hollywood glamour in Carolina Herrera
At the Critics Choice Awards in January, Yeoh was the picture of modern elegance donning a column black gown with fuchsia-red sleeves crafted in ruffle-like layers that cascaded beautifully to the ground. She elevated the look with jewels from De Beer and glittery Jimmy Choo stilettos.
4. Shining, shimmering in magical Armani Privé
Taking home the most coveted award of the night, Yeoh dressed the part as the best actress, as if she knew she was destined to take home her first-ever Golden Globe on the night. She appeared a glistening star in her midnight-blue sequinned Armani Privé gown, which had a layered peplum and a rippling floor-length skirt. Styled with her long locks worn down and to one side, her classy hairdo made way for the Moussaieff diamond choker that matched her stacked bracelets.
5. Goddess-like in Valentino
Last December, Yeoh accepted the 15th Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film at the Santa Barbara International Film Fest, dressed like a goddess in a Valentino creation from its spring 2022 haute couture line. Her gown, simple in white, accentuated her form. Her look’s crowning glory was the leafy gold-plated choker, befitting her goddess-like beauty.
6. Sunny yellow Bottega Veneta
With loosely curled waves and minimal gold and silver accessories, Yeoh was a sight that delighted in a canary-yellow Bottega Veneta midi dress that came with a structured top and a fringe skirt, as she stepped out to attend the 13th Governors Awards in LA back in November.
7. All-black glamour in Balenciaga
Yeoh was dubbed the “surprise star” of Paris Couture Fashion Week last year by media, and rightly so, as the actress, then 59, sat front row with celebrities and influencers of the new gen. She wore mermaid-cut number from Balenciaga with a pussy-bow blouse and satin skirt, giving off a magnetic, commanding presence.
8. Ethereal in Prabal Gurung
Last but not least of Yeoh’s scroll-stopping red carpet outfits is her ethereal Prabal Gurung look at the 2022 Met Gala, which held the theme “gilded glamour” for the exhibit “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”. A mint-green fluted gown with a hand-draped bodice and cape, the label’s website reveals that Yeoh’s garment of choice was made of upcycled silk – truly a statement-making ensemble.
Michelle Yeoh has been doing everything, everywhere all at once lately, as the Malaysian actress embraces her Hollywood ‘moment’, winning award after award – and doing it ever so stylishly
She made history as the first Asian woman to win SAG’s best actress, collecting her trophy in a Schiaparelli gown, and has also dazzled in looks from Carolina Herrera and Valentino to Balenciaga
