What happened: Anna Sorokin, 31, posed as Anna Delvey, a socialite with a massive trust fund, while fooling Manhattan’s elite. She made her peers believe she was opening a members’ club, but instead used their investment money to fund her luxury lifestyle.

In 2019, a Manhattan jury convicted her of several financial crimes including theft of a financial jet and grand larceny. She was released for six weeks after completing her criminal sentence in February 2021, and then detained for overstaying her visa. She holds a German passport and chose to be imprisoned in the States over returning to Germany.

Despite – or maybe because of – her crimes, Anna Sorokin’s name and story have become a media sensation. Photo: @benrayner/Instagram

Where is she now? A judge ruled last week that she could spend the remainder of her sentence under house arrest under the condition that she wear an ankle monitor and stay off social media and away from electronics, as reported by Bloomberg.
