Formerly called The Losers before changing its name to symbolise greater status, per Ming Pao newspaper, The Wynners is one of Hong Kong’s favourite 70s pop bands.

It was launched in 1973 as an English-language teen idol group in Hong Kong, comprising five members: Alan Tam, Kenny Bee, Bennett Pang, Danny Yip and Anthony Chan.

Rising to fame for hits like “Carry on My Wayward Son” and “Sha La La La”, the boy band achieved accolades such as RTHK’s Top 10 Gold Songs Awards’ Golden Needle Award in 1988.

According to The Star, the group never officially disbanded, but the members went on to enjoy solo careers while continuing to hold concerts together every five years.

Each member has undoubtedly soared to success through The Wynners and together, they made a significant contribution to Hong Kong’s evolving Canto-pop legacy and the entertainment industry as a whole.
