In June this year, Elon Musk commented on the declining population in the US on Twitter, saying that he was “doing [his] part” to fix what he thought was a “demographic disaster”.

Musk’s comments re-emerged after it was revealed this week that he had secretly fathered a set of twins in November last year, bringing the total number of children he has fathered to nine.

Commenting on his situation, Musk said the amount of children he had was “unusual” because “statistically, the richer someone is, the fewer kids they have”.

So who are Musk’s kids and what do we know about them? Here’s a snapshot of his growing brood.

The mystery twins

The SpaceX CEO welcomed twins with an executive at his artificial intelligence company Neuralink, according to Newsweek. Shivon Zilis is an AI expert and has reportedly worked for the company for five years. Business Insider stated that the couple welcomed twins in November 2021. Zilis and Musk reportedly filed legal documents to have the twins’ names changed to reflect that of their father. The revelation has shocked many as Musk and his on-off partner, musician Grimes, welcomed a baby via surrogate in December of the same year.

In a 2010 interview with Marie Claire, Justine Wilson, Musk’s first wife, wrote that their first child together, Nevada, died at 10 weeks old. In her essay, she said she went to put her son to bed in his cot “as always” and he just stopped breathing.
