There’s a new favourite cast member on Stranger Things and it’s metalhead and Dungeons & Dragons freak Eddie Munson – he’s loud and brash, intense and geeky, a rocker, a charmer, and has a bit of a soft heart, too. He’s the latest addition to the gang and the most welcome surprise for the series’ fourth season.

But what about the actor who plays Munson – Joseph Quinn? Here’s what we know about the British breakout star so far …

He’s actually British and is 29 years old

Unlike his character Eddie, who is American, hailing from Indiana, and estimated to be between 19 and 21, Quinn is actually British and 29 years old. In a Men’s Health interview, he talked about having to lose a lot of weight “to roll back the years” and working with a dialect coach to be able to speak in a rather more American manner.

He’s been acting since he was a baby

Quinn has been active professionally since 2011, according to his IMDB. However, in a Nuit Magazine interview, he revealed he’s actually been acting “since he was a baby”. He recalled doing school plays in nursery and being a drama scholar at his school. Quinn then went to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and graduated in 2015.

For him, the most rewarding part about being an actor is the community. He said in his interview that the people are “gorgeous, interesting, companionate and accepting – who wouldn’t want to work with that?”

He was also in Game of Thrones and wants to be on The Lord of the Rings

Quinn took on the role of Stark soldier Koner in the Game of Thrones’ episode The Spoils of War in season seven. On Men’s Health, he described the experiences as a “turn up, do a couple of days and leave” type of gig, in comparison to his Stranger Things experience, where he felt more involved and was able to spend time with and get to know the cast.

He also seems to be a fan of The Lord of the Rings saga, sharing on The Glass Magazine how he’d love to be part of the trilogy’s remake.

Outside acting, he likes to exercise as his way of ‘switching off’

Talking to The Rakish Gent, he described the industry he’s in as “adrenaline-fuelled” and finds himself spending time with friends who aren’t actors to “bring [him] down to earth”. He also noted he likes exercising a lot and finds it really helpful to “switch off”.

He is rather used to all the costumes and wigs

Where is Dr Donald Cline from Netflix’s Our Father now?

Quinn hardly recognises himself playing his character Eddie Munson on Stranger Things. “It’s such a fun thing to look at yourself and not really see something similar to how you normally see yourself,” he told Men’s Health. To become Munson in the series, Quinn had to wear a massive wig that required 20 to 40 minutes to put on, he told the magazine.

Thanks to his previous theatrical drama experiences though, Quinn is used to the costumes, wigs and major transformations the sci-fi/fantasy genre often entails. He has also worked in productions including Catherine the Great, Les Misérables and Dickensian.
