It’s high jewellery a gogo at the Cannes Film Festival this year, as the world’s biggest heritage brands showcase extravagant pieces on the world’s biggest stars. Storied European jewellery houses from Chaumet and Boucheron to Chanel and Cartier all jumped on the opportunity to adorn actors and celebrities in breathtaking designs from their latest high jewellery collections.

The likes of Julianne Moore, Anne Hathaway and Julia Roberts got the chance to complement their outfits with jewellery truly worthy of a haute couture dress. Even relative newcomers like Messika were not to be outdone: the French jewellery house’s glittering pieces were seen on the younger influencers present, such as model Lori Harvey.

Here are the most dazzling pieces from the 75th Cannes Film Festival.

Julianne Moore

The Oscar-winning actress made her red carpet appearance in a plunging black Bottega Veneta gown in a bid to do justice to the enormous Bulgari piece sitting on her collarbone. Called Tribute to Paris, the necklace is from the brand’s Eden The Garden of Wonders high jewellery collection, set to be officially launched this June.

The centrepiece of the necklace is its 35,53-carat cabochon-cut Colombian emerald. Complementing the magnificent gem are dozens of fancy cut white diamonds, as well as hundreds of other intricately set, buff top emeralds. Moore paired the necklace with an equally dazzling emerald and diamond ring, also from Bulgari.

Deepika Padukone

Images of the actress wearing a Panthère de Cartier necklace have already gone viral on Indian social media. One of the esteemed jewellery house’s most famous signature designs, the 18-karat white gold necklace is fashioned in a geometric, openwork design, pave-set with diamonds of nearly 20 carats in total, featuring two majestic panther heads, and encrusted with emeralds and onyx stones.

Anne Hathaway

It’s impossible not to be captivated by the Mediterranean Reverie worn by Hathaway, which reminds us of Titanic’s famous Heart of the Ocean necklace. Also selected from Bulgari’s Eden The Garden of Wonders high jewellery collection, Hathaway was given the enviable task of debuting the piece at Cannes. The necklace features a royal blue, cushion-cut Sri Lankan sapphire of 107 carats suspended from a diamond-encrusted link.

Julia Roberts

Named as Godmother of the Trophée Chopard at this year’s Cannes festival – meaning she is tasked with presenting a promising actor with Chopard’s specially created award – the veteran actress dressed the part too. The Pretty Woman star accessorised her Louis Vuitton evening jumpsuit with a striking Chopard necklace that featured a rare, 100-carat cushion-shape yellow diamond, complemented by a mixture of diamonds in various cuts and sizes.

Kat Graham

For the screening of Top Gun: Maverick, Kat Graham wore a necklace and earrings from Chaumet’s Torsade de Chaumet collection on the red carpet. Known as the exclusive jeweller for France’s 18th century Empress Joséphine Bonaparte, Chaumet has to be the country’s most prestigious high jewellery brand.

The so-called torsade designs (torsade means “twist” in English) make gemstones come alive with movement. The pieces are inspired by the sweep of the frieze that wrap around Paris’ historic Vendôme Column – atop which a statue of Napoléon Bonaparte sits.

In the form of an asymmetrical “toi et moi”, a twist of diamonds gracefully dances around the precious core piece worn by Graham. The Torsade de Chaumet necklace is in white gold set with many small diamonds, suspending two round-brilliant diamonds. It’s matched with diamond earrings of a similar twisting design.

Lady Amelia Spencer

A heritage brand for a bona fide aristocrat: Lady Amelia Spencer is the niece of the late Princess Diana, and wore earrings from Chopard’s Haute Joaillerie Collection, according to the brand’s official Instagram account. The opulent white gold earrings are encrusted with emeralds, their brilliant hue enhanced by the surrounding diamonds.

Katherine Langford

The Australian actress collaborated with iconic Swiss jewellery house Piaget for her Cannes look. Langford (literally) turned heads on the red carpet by wearing her classic Piaget piece backwards. The necklace is one of the newest designs in Piaget’s high jewellery collection and features diamonds in various shapes intricately set around a mix-cut cushion-shape emerald in its pendant. Langford paired the necklace with oh-so-subtle earrings – also from Piaget’s high jewellery collection – featuring brilliant marquise diamonds.

Viola Davis

The US actress stole the limelight when she appeared in a stunning yellow dress accessorised by a Boucheron headpiece and a stunning ring that matched the hue of her haute couture.

The Fleur de Paradis jewelled headpiece is one of the latest highlights in Boucheron’s Carte Blanche high jewellery collection, and boasts a naturalistic floral design, set with pink gemstones and diamonds in coloured precious metal, all executed with superb precision. Davis paired the head adornment with Boucheron’s Hopi hummingbird ring, also from the high jewellery collection, which features a 35-carat yellow beryl next to a pave-set diamond hummingbird.

Lori Harvey

The model and fashion influencer accessorised her couture dress with a Messika high jewellery necklace and earrings. In the brand’s signature delicate precious-metal filigree and lacework settings, the Shards of Mirror necklace from Messika’s Snow Queen collection is like “a lake shattered into a thousand pieces by the ice queen’s fury”, as the brand put it, boasting diamonds in various shapes and sizes, of more than 100 carats.

Dressed in Chanel haute couture, the Italian-American model and actress appears to believe that less is more when it comes to jewellery. Her Chanel Coco Crush earrings, Brins de Diamants white gold and diamond earring, Lune ring and Comète ring high jewellery pieces blend classic design with contemporary concept. The Coco Crush earrings are shaped like hook earpieces, dripping in a cascade of sparkling diamonds in various shapes.
