Remembering Snowdrop star Kim Mi-soo: the rising Korean actress, who we sadly lost at age 29, played a student activist alongside Blackpink’s Jisoo in the Disney+ series

On January 5, we learned about the tragic passing of Korean actress Kim Mi-soo. The 29-year-old star’s impressive career includes various film and TV show appearances, including the new Disney+ show Snowdrop that premiered on JTBC on December 18. She appeared in the melodrama opposite Blackpink’s Jisoo and Jung Hae-in, playing the young student activist Yeo Jeong-min. The cause of Kim’s death has not been revealed.

Kim’s agency, Landscape Entertainment, wrote, “We sincerely ask that you refrain from spreading rumours or speculative reports so that the bereaved family, who is in shock and full of sorrow, can remember the deceased.” They also added that, “Her funeral will be held quietly behind closed doors according to the wishes of her family.”

While many Korean actors begin their careers in K-drama, Kim actually started hers by appearing in several films. Her first film, Lipstick Revolution in 2018, tells the story of a group of university students who hoped to cause mayhem by covering their whole campus with lipstick, according to The Korean Film Council website. She then appeared in two other films, Memories and Kyungmi’s World, both released in 2019. In Kyungmi’s World, she played an unknown actress struggling to live alone in Seoul.

Kim attended the prestigious Korea National University of Arts, earning a bachelor’s degree in acting, according to Kbizoom. The Seoul university has produced a slew of notable alumni, including Park So-dam, Kim Go-eun and Exo’s Suho.

She starred in four K-dramas in 2020

The starlet began her TV career in JTBC’s anthology Drama Festa (2019), a one-act play TV series where she appeared in an episode titled Human Luwak. Kim then caught the public’s attention after appearing in Hi Bye, Mama! (2020) opposite Kim Tae-hee. She appeared in three more K-dramas in the same year: Into the Ring, Netflix series The School Nurse Files, and Drama Special. In 2021, she was seen in Yumi’s Cells and Netflix’s Hellbound playing supporting roles.
