Having graduated from the HEC School of Management in 1985, it took decades before Pinault took the reins from his father by becoming President of Groupe Artémis in 2003, and then chairman and CEO of Kering two years later. Add a couple more decades to that timeline and we’re now looking at Harvard Business Review’s third best-performing CEO in the world in 2019.

Despite being part of one of the most influential families in France, it wasn’t until his engagement to Hollywood actress Salma Hayek in 2007 that Pinault started to get noticed by those outside the fashion industry.

Since their marriage in 2009, the 59-year-old French billionaire has delighted in spoiling his wife, with whom he has a 14-year-old daughter. Pinault, who has three children outside his relationship with Hayek, seems to love nothing more than whisking Hayek away to all manner of picturesque places.
