Known for their fairy-tale romance and luxurious lifestyle filled with gifts of supercars, watches and handbags, the couple has also donated millions to charity

Move over, Posh and Becks – we’re all about another football-and-singer power couple.

Meet Vietnam’s Lê Công Vinh and Thủy Tiên, who have charmed the nation’s public and commanded headlines for nearly two decades, thanks to both their stellar talents and enduring romance.

The couple met by chance in 2008, at a photo shoot for a teen magazine in Vietnam, when Lê was at the height of his career and Thủy Tiên was still an emerging pop singer. Vietnam Net reported that they fell head over heels for each other at first sight – just like Posh once confessed to Today about her husband too. They kept their relationship low profile for a year to enjoy their romance in private, away from paparazzi cameras, Thủy Tiên explained to Dan Tri in an interview. When they finally went public, the news made waves in local media for months.

In 2014, a year after having their first child, the couple got married in an extravagant and widely broadcast ceremony that was attended by more than 1,000 guests, according to Zing News. Lê and Thủy Tiên used all their wedding gift money – worth roughly US$87,000 – to fund their subsequent charity activities, reported Thanh Nien.

As husband and wife, they continued to achieve new career milestones, raise a family and accumulate a massive fortune. They often shower each other with lavish gifts worth thousands of dollars. Doi Song Phap Luat lists cars, smartphones, jewellery watches and designer handbags as just a few of the presents they’ve exchanged.

But beyond their fancy lifestyle, they are also known for being a strong couple who support each other’s careers and who shares ups and downs together, according to various Vietnamese media outlets. To many, their glamorous and aspirational love story is something out of a fairy tale.
