The year 2007 was an interesting time in pop culture – back when Paris Hilton was the world’s most famous tabloid queen and star of groundbreaking reality show The Simple Life, and Kim Kardashian was her best friend-slash-assistant.
But that era came to an abrupt end in October 2007 when Keeping Up with the Kardashians aired its first episode, and there was suddenly a new “It girl” (and family) on the scene. Since then, the Kardashians’ impact on the world of tabloid media has been immeasurable – quite unlike the clearly charted reciprocal impact on their bank accounts. In 2021, Kim has an estimated net worth of around US$1.2 billion, while little sister Kylie is trailing behind with an impressive US$700 million.

Now, in 2021, there seems to be another turn of the tables. With Keeping Up with the Kardashians calling it a day after 20 seasons in June, it seems like Paris and the Hiltons are back with a vengeance. With an estimated net worth of US$300 million, Paris has never stopped hustling her empire, but can she ever reach billionaire status like her former assistant?
Reality show royalty
The Kardashians are taking a step back from reality TV, and it seems Paris and co are taking advantage of the gap in the market. Paris is currently starring in her own Netflix “cooking show”, Cooking with Paris, while her mother Kathy joined sister Kyle Richards on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills as a cast “friend” regular in May.
Kathy’s addition to the show breathed some much-needed fresh air into the franchise, and she’s instantly become a fan favourite. When asked by Access Hollywood if she would ever consider joining the show full time, she responded “never say never”.
