Was Johnny Suh – otherwise known as John Suh or Suh Young-ho – really set to join Exo in the early days? NCT fans will be thankful the multi-talented singer and rapper, brought up in Chicago, made the move to Seoul to pursue a K-pop career

Fans of the group NCT may know Johnny as the lovable ball of sunshine that radiates positivity throughout his 6-foot frame, but for those new to the group, here are some lesser known facts about the American-born K-pop star otherwise known as John Suh or Suh Young-ho.

Despite passing auditions for star training back in 2007, Johnny was allowed to fly back and forth between Seoul and Chicago to complete his high school education – an uncommon allowance by most entertainment companies. Johnny later made his official debut in 2016 – that’s a whopping nine years as a trainee.

He was almost a member of Exo

Back when Exo was slated for debut, fans had dug up photos of the star training and eating alongside Exo members, and had speculated that he was originally in the debut line-up for the Love Shot singers. Johnny even previously revealed on his radio show, NCT’s Night Night, that Exo leader Suho was like his “real brother”, teaching him invaluable lessons when he was at a young age.

Fans admire his mother just as much as the star himself
