EVENT: Rihanna’s Fifth Annual Diamond Ball
WHERE: Cipriani Wall Street, New York City
HAPPENINGS: Rihanna’s Fifth Annual Diamond Ball took place in downtown Manhattan in mid-September. The gala was organised to benefit the Clara Lionel Foundation which Rihanna founded in 2012 to support girls’ education globally and humanitarian aid programmes – particularly addressing the urgent effects of climate change.

About 600 guests attended the charity event, including models Karlie Kloss, Shanina Shaik and Devon Windsor, actress Paula Patton, and rappers 2 Chainz, 21 Savage and Cardi B – who turned up in blush-toned Georges Hobeika couture.

The host of the evening was late night talk show host Seth Meyers, who wore Dolce & Gabbana. Meyers introduced live performances from 13-time Grammy-winner Pharrell Williams, DJ Khaled – who is expecting his second child with Nicole Tuck – as well as rappers Fat Joe, A$AP Ferg, Fabolous, Megan Thee Stallion, Yo Gotti – and Rihanna herself.

Guests were invited to take part in a live auction to raise funds for Rihanna’s charity. Up for grabs was an all-expenses-paid trip to see Serena Williams at a top Grand Slam, and a trip to Barbados featuring dinner with Prime Minister Mia Mottley, among others.

Rihanna wore Givenchy Haute Couture to the star-studded event and appeared composedbut many are still reeling after her Savage x Fenty lingerie show that took place during New York Fashion Week just two days earlier. The Amazon Prime stream of that head-turning show is due out on September 20.
