Game of Thrones: how Sophie Turner said goodbye to Sansa Stark

English actress Sophie Turner, newly married to pop star Joe Jonas, has weathered a decade of untold savagery, destruction, and bloody battles as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones. While audiences are on the edge of their living room couches awaiting the final episodes of the show, Turner is feeling a rush of optimism about her life and career after enduring some dark moments while growing up in the Game of Thrones world. Her close friend Maisie Williams (Anya Stark) has stood by her during the tough times and they often tease each other on Instagram. Have we got the Game of Thrones’ Night King all wrong? Here is what Turner has to say about how she is dealing with the end of her Game of Thrones tenure. 1. The last few weeks were an emotional roller coaster It was very emotional. I was lucky that on my last day I was surrounded by all of the cast members. It’s been nearly a decade for me. The majority of my life. I’m still very much processing it. I still don’t accept that it’s done. I don’t think I will [absorb it all] until it’s next year and I’m not back in Belfast with my [GoT] family. 2. There was no wrap party per se via GIPHY Unfortunately, most of us had different last days on the set, so there was no big party or anything. But I still remember my last scene in Spain. We shot them for five bloody hard days – and in the end I just wanted to get away. I wasn’t sad or sentimental, just exhausted. But then David and Dan, the creators of the series, came to me with the whole team. I got a farewell gift with a little personal message, and they delivered a speech. After that I was an emotional wreck for hours, because of course all the emotions caught up with me. 3. But there was a lot of crying via GIPHY All the actors got a hand-drawn storyboard of their favourite or most important scene from Game of Thrones. In my case, it was the storyboard of Sansa’s last scene. I bawled my eyes out and couldn’t stop shaking and crying for hours. 4. It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows I grew up in the spotlight from the age of 13 to 21, which is generally the most turbulent time for every girl. Those are the years that are difficult for us even if you’re leading a normal life. You feel insecure and experience a lot of self-doubts. It wasn’t easy at times for me. When you’re starting your career at a young age you’re forced to grow up much faster. Also, playing a character like Sansa and going through all the things she has had to endure, the violence and everything, toughens you up. In the last few seasons she began to understand the rules of the game and to take control of her life, using her understanding of politics to achieve what others do with weapons. Not all Game of Thrones stars get US$500,000 per episode... 5. She’s still mourning I’m still in the middle of the mourning phase. I spent 10 years with Game of Thrones and it took up my entire youth. There were some years where I spent more time on the Winterfell set than at home. The cast and crew became my second family and it’s hard for me to accept that they are no longer there and Sansa is no longer part of my life. 6. Maisie’s got her back Maisie has been a big help and a wonderful friend to me over the years. We grew up together on the show and we’ve shared so many things together and talking about everything. I hope that I have also been of some help to her, too. We’ve both leaned on each other for support during those times when we felt out of place and a bit lost. It’s been so great to have a great friend like that and we’re still very close. She didn’t get a sword as a souvenir … but she took something else Kit [Harington] (Jon Snow) took his sword and Maisie is taking her sword so I thought, “what do I have?” So I took my corset.
