POST EDIT: Cathay Cargo leads the world in fast and safe air transport of goods
- From vaccines to horses to massive oil pipes, Cathay Pacific’s cargo division delivers hi-tech and efficient transport to every corner of the planet

Two days after Romantic Warrior created history in Melbourne, becoming the first Hong Kong horse to win Australia’s prestigious Group One Cox Plate, the five-year-old gelding was flown back to Hong Kong in style on Cathay Cargo to prepare for today’s Hong Kong International Races.
The VIP arrangements for the many thousands of racehorses that travel to international fixtures begin months in advance, taking into account training regimes and quarantine requirements.
While much of the cargo that flies around the world goes into the belly of the aircraft, horses travel on the main deck of one of Cathay’s 20 Boeing 747 freighter aircraft.
After his impressive win in late October, Romantic Warrior was taken to an indoor facility at Melbourne Airport where he stepped inside his air stable – a custom-designed box manufactured for flying on aircraft that locks into the main deck of the cargo plane.

A high-profile horse, he travelled with a stable representative as well as an attendant on the flight. He was served a light meal of hay and encouraged to drink water to stay hydrated through the flight.
It is this level of professionalism and care that has Chris Burke, managing director of IRT, a global leader in horse transport, booking horses on Cathay Cargo.
