Designers Gildas Loaec, from France, and Tokyo-born Masaya Kuroki felt there was a gap in the market for a company blending fashion and music. So, in 2002, the Paris-based duo launched Maison Kitsune, both a record company and fashion label. Kitsune, which means "fox" in Japanese, has released albums by such cult favourites as Bloc Party and Hot Chip.

numerous brands have attempted to bridge the worlds of music and fashion, but none has done so as well as Kitsune. With its finger firmly on the pulse of music and fashion, it has a deeper understanding of what all the cool kids are wearing. Drawing on the designers' varied cultural backgrounds, the pieces are a harmonious blend of East and West.
Kitsune's latest collection is called London Beats and is inspired by the British rock culture of the swinging 1960s - think classic monochromatic blacks and greys with androgynous touches. We particularly like the all-over micro-black print T-shirt (below; HK$1,100) - a retro-cool design with just the right amount of hippie appeal. Pair it with the classic red cardigan (top; HK$2,490). For something simpler, try one of Kitsune's sleek polo shirts (above), cut in an era-appropriate chest-hugging fit.
Maison Kitsune is available at Kapok, 5 St Francis Yard, Wan Chai, tel: 2549 9254.
