Panacea is an exclusive retreat on the Thai island of Koh Samui. It's a 10-minute drive from the airport and slightly less to restaurants, bars and those gorgeous beaches. Named after the Greek goddess of healing, the property was designed by former Hong Kong-based architect Bill Bensley.
Panacea operates at a higher level - in more ways than one. The retreat balances unabashed luxury with an unpretentious private-estate ambience. Perched on its own hilltop with the island unfurling like a map below, the five ultra-sump-tuous residences reflect an emphasis on regionally sourced, handmade fixtures and furnishings.

Each villa consists of spacious pavilions with high-vaulted open ceilings and sliding glass doors connecting indoor and outdoor areas. Praana (pictured) is the jewel in the crown - a lavish "resort within a resort" featuring a fully equipped gym, cinema, billiard room and karaoke lounge. But be warned; Praana's 43,000 square feet of living space is enough to make a Hongkonger weep.
For sure; frazzled souls in need of mental and physical rejuvenation will regain their mojo in no time. Begin the day with a yoga class then work up an appetite in the infinity pool or on the tennis court, followed by a martial arts lesson from a Muay Thai master. After a few rounds of kick-boxing, choose from an impressive array of health drinks, including protein or nutrition shakes, detox and power juices. Visualise a fruit smoothie and a frosted glass of tropical goodness will appear at your table in the blink of an eye.
