With Australia’s Great Barrier Reef as his backyard, Glenn Bourke, the CEO of privately owned Hamilton Island, has explored some of the world's most remote islands. He points to a few of his favorite hideaways for snorkeling, sailing or scuba diving.

HK Magazine: You’ve been on Hamilton Island for seven years. What’s it like?
Glenn Bourke: Hamilton Island is in the middle of the Whitsunday archipelago, a group of 70 islands—most of which are national parks and untouched. I do a lot of diving and snorkeling, and the fish life here is just mind-blowing. I was out the other day and saw this fever of stingrays—maybe 50 stingrays swimming past us. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.

HK: Where are your favorite spots around the archipelago?
GB: There’s a beautiful little island called Border Island with a natural cove that’s incredible. There’s also Whitehaven Beach, which is one of the top 10 beaches in the world. Then there’s obviously the Great Barrier Reef, which is just 1.5 hours away by boat. You can charter a boat and make your own adventure.
