Three New Japanese Restaurants and a New Catalan-Style Spanish Place Open in Wan Chai

Watch Out For…
There are not one, not two, but THREE new Japanese restaurants in Wan Chai: Gin Sai, Wagyu Takumi and Rozan (all at G/F, Oak Hill, 16 Wood Rd., Wan Chai, 2574-1299). While all part of the same conglomerate and right beside each other in the same building, the three establishments each come with their own spin: Gin Sai will be offering seiro (steamed stuff) and robatayaki; Wagyu Takumi will be a 12-seat French-Japanese fusion experiment; and Rozan will be an equally intimate sushi and sashimi joint. Expect high-end (read: pricy) and trendy Japanese fare at all three.
Watch out, 22 Ships—another trendy contempo Spanish place is set to open on a street near you. Catalunya Hong Kong (G/F, Guardian House, Morrison Hill, 32 Oi Kwan Rd., Wan Chai) will be the second branch of the successful Catalunya Singapore, taking up some 7,500 square feet of restaurant and bar space and offering Catalan-style dishes such as roasted suckling pig, lobster rice and esqueixada (salted cod salad). At the helm will be group executive chef Alain Devahive Tolosa, Barcelona-born and El Bulli-trained.
Talk of the Town
Chef Hisato Nakahigashi from Tokyo’s three Michelin-starred restaurant Miyamasou will be manning the kitchen at Inagiku (4/F, Four Seasons Hotel, 8 Finance St., Central, 2805-0600) from February 26 to March 5 to offer diners a multi-course lunch or dinner special. Delicate dishes such as miso-pickled egg yolk with lotus root chips, grilled lily root, wasabi-flavored roast beef, and deep-fried lobster with bamboo shoots will be served on Inagiku’s equally delicate tableware, while sakes of all colors and flavors—chosen by Hong Kong-based distributor Koji Sake—get paired alongside.
