Coco Lau: Mr Chu Hing-pui's Karaoke Hostess
Coco Lau is the karaoke hostess who brought about an early end to the career of RTHK broadcasting director Chu Hing-pui, when she was photographed with him in July. Now back in China, Coco gives Jan Leung an update on her life.

HK Magazine: Do you know the singer Coco Lee? Is that where the name comes from?
Coco Lau: No, I call myself Coco because I like the name. I am not trying to be someone I'm not.
HK: So are you actually a hooker?
CL: No, but everyone calls me that. I don’t want to clarify anything - it is useless to do so even if I want to. I am a hot, sexy dancer. That’s it.
HK: So what really happened that night with Mr. Chu?
CL: Mr. Chu is my client and we were just heading out for some late-night snacks. We bumped into a group of reporters on our way and they took pictures of us. The next thing I knew, we were making the news headlines.
HK: Are you using Mr. Chu to advertise yourself?
CL: I didn’t know Mr. Chu was that famous. I hardly watch any TV here. I had no idea that the media would make such a big deal about it.
HK: But you've mentioned Mr. Chu in many previous interviews…
CL: I never said much about Mr. Chu - the reporters paid my colleagues and the bitches made up stories about me. They even told the reporters my address in Chengdu and they took a picture of my grandma. I have come to accept that it is the media’s job to expose one’s privacy while it is my job to protect against it..
HK: What do you think about men in general?
CL: There are only three kinds of men - the good, the bad and the men that aren’t really men. Even then, the so-called “good men” are good because they don’t have enough money to spend on another girl. Actually, men and women alike, we are all potential cheaters. The so-called “good women” are good because they are not tempted enough yet.
