American chef/entrepreneur Harlan Goldstein is opening a new place: a massive 16,000-sq-ft restaurant called Harlan’s Macau in the Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16, about a five-minute ride from the Wynn. He took the entire top floor and added a private room called Private H, as well as a 10,000-sq-ft al fresco terrace. 25 of his top chefs will join him sometime in January.

It may seem like a small thing to non-residents, but the management of Discovery Bay is terminating the lease of well-loved watering hole The Beer Bay. A popular post-work routine was to grab a drink or two and then hang out at the back of the ferry, and it’s actually quite a little scene. Anyhoo, there is a petition and protests; learn more at www.beerbay.com.hk.

Atomic Patty has finally opened in Lan Kwai Fong and serves up its own special menu of burgers, hot dogs, shakes and plenty of beer. It’s at 7 Lan Kwai Fong, 2868-3666.
The boys at the funky Marouche Lebanese restaurant on Cochrane St., Central have bought out the lease on the 24-hour joint Hot Dog across the street and given the menu and décor an extensive rehaul. You’ll see homemade kebabs, freshly baked bread, and even the hot dogs have been completely redone by a chef who ran hot dog stands in Lebanon for over 12 years. Apparently it’s one of the most popular snacks over there. To celebrate you can now get any sandwich with a soft drink for just $38.

I actually have not seen something like this before – an entire promotion devoted to salads. My man chef Didier Rochat at Café des Artistes is now serving up everything from crab with French caviar and a sea urchin dressing (appetizer $190, main $250) and my favorite, a classic beef slices with mixed greens, Paris mushrooms and green peppercorn dressing (trust me, this sounds really good in French). 1/F, California Tower, 30-32 D’Aguilar St., Central, 2526-3880.

For some reason I made a mistake in my schedule and wound up in Langham Place Hotel on Saturday all dressed up in my Sunday sharpest. Having taken a taxi all the way from Central, I figured I may as well stop in for a quick drink, and to my surprise this groovy place called Portal Work and Play was serving up a big seafood bar with loads of fresh oysters. 55 Shanghai St., Mongkok, 3552-3388.

One more thing: I remembered there’s a new menu at Chippy’s in Central, which the boys at The Globe took over. The set lunches include some great new sausages such as Cumberland and Battered Jumbo, fresh catch-of-the-day, Pukka pies and now, burgers. All for $80. Polish that off with a deep-fried Mars bar. B/F, 51 Wellington St., 2523-1618.
