Just Browsing
Plucked, bushy or shaped like a couple of worms, your destiny is written in your eyebrows. Amy Cheung finds out how to read your fate on your face.

Every feature tells your future, according to Chinese face-readers. And none more so than your eyebrows. They expose your character and temperament, and reveal the state of your relationships with family, colleagues and friends. Between the ages of 30 and 40, in particular, your brows reveal your destiny. Feng shui master Lee Sing-tong explains how your fate is written all over your face.
First of all, size matters. Chinese folklore says that if the eyes are the king, the eyebrows are his subordinates - which basically means they should not overpower the eyes. They should neither be too thick, which suggests deprived circumstances, nor too thin and sparse as this implies one has difficulties in accumulating assets. The higher the eyebrows on the face, the more ambitious and courageous the person will be. But if they are too high, it signifies an overly idealistic and impractical person. Hairs that grow inwards indicate a person that is likely to be disloyal to parents or siblings. Messy brows? Grab your tweezers - chaos above the eyes indicates a disorganized soul. A monobrow, or even the suggestion of one, means you’re determined, aggressive, calculating and selfish. Get plucking.
As for the best brows, Lee says that men with eyebrows shaped like flying dragons are lucky, exceptional people. In other words, they are born leaders.
The Battle of the Brows
It seems that one’s eyebrows are of utmost importance in determining leadership qualities and the potential to be loved by all. We put our past and present leaders to the test. Then, because it was fun, we set Lee loose on a host of other celebrities. Here’s what he had to say.
Donald Tsang Yam-kuen
The Chief Executive has slim but focused and spirited eyes with a lifted yet rounded occipital ridge that suggests an authoritative, thoughtful and decisive character. His eyebrows are bright, organized and orderly. They match his face very well, producing a person capable of leading Hong Kong.
Tung Chee-hwa
Our former leader has a broad forehead and in-line eyebrows. While they suggest he can enjoy benefits from his ancestors, his eyebrows are too thick and put pressure on his eyes. This indicates a peaceful and non-aggressive character, but gives him a weak outlook. However, his eyebrows are getting white with age, which implies good fortune in his later years.
Hu Jintao
Hu’s eyebrows are shaped like a pair of silkworms. They are the sign of a loyal civil servant: righteous, honorable and good with people. However, the tails of the eyebrows are somewhat messy, implying there could be some worry and confusion going on.
Chris Patten
Although Patten has balanced facial features, he cannot climb to the top of the political ladder because his eyebrows are just too sharp and thick, taking the focus off his eyes. As he has comparatively straight and sparse eyebrows, he is good at diplomacy and thus has the ability to be a top diplomat.
Anson Chan Fang On-sang
Chan’s eyebrows are high, slim and feminine. She has bright eyes and bow-like eyebrows. Women with such a graceful combination are ambitious, competent and fortunate. Chan’s idealism and capabilities will enable her to reach a high position in her career and a happy old age.
Li Ka-shing
The tycoon’s eyebrows are slightly sparse but elegant and well structured. The pointed parts of the brows suggest a tough life but also the personality to deal with it - stubborn and enduring. Li is smart but in a way that is suitable for business, not politics. His life demands him to be hardworking but lifelong happiness is also guaranteed.
Karen Mok
Mok’s eyebrows are a curved like the new moon, which implies a tender, kind and mild character. The eyebrows, ears and forehead are high, indicating intelligence and an ability to win people over. Her chin is too sharp, however, so her fortune in her later years will not be as good as in her youth.
Kelly Chan
The most special thing about Chan’s face are her thick eyebrows and big eyes - signs of steadiness and a smooth career in artistic matters. Her eyebrows are long and smooth suggesting her entertainment career will fly even higher from the ages of 31 to 34.
Edison Chen
Some people say Chen’s eyebrows are like two swords, which makes him suitable for government positions and business. He has a smart face, with fine-haired brows situated high up in the middle of the forehead. His eyebrows indicate a person of respectable origin who will receive help from powerful people throughout his life.
Gillian Chung of Twins
Chung’s eyebrows are bushy, the sign of a good entertainer. She had an early start in the entertainment business and her fortune has been accumulating ever since. Her eyebrows are clear and well defined. This gives her a lovable look that will make her life easier.
Charlene Choi of Twins
Choi’s eyebrows are slim and graceful, which, together with her high cheekbones, signifies a good development in her middle years. The ages of 30-40 will be the best period of her life but she will need to pay more attention to her health after the age of 40.
Eason Chan
Chan’s eyebrows are pointed on bony structures, indicating rashness and a fiery character. Such a personality creates many problems. His brows are also messy and sparse, signifying difficulties in accumulating wealth. His fortune should be better after the age of 40.
The Verdict
In the government arena: Anson Chan. Her eyebrows fit the overall facial features needed for one who is to successfully lead the SAR and have a great career.
In the screen business: Edison Chen. His eyebrows reveal a good upbringing and a powerful background. His future development is thus made easier.
