Bar review: Fu Lu Shou is a toast to fortune, prosperity and longevity

The vibe: thank the Chinese gods Fu (good fortune), Lu (prosperity) and Shou (longevity) for this hip little bar-resto in an old building on Hollywood Road. It is a welcome detour from the dull hangouts that lurk on the SoHo strip.

thank the Chinese gods Fu (good fortune), Lu (prosperity) and Shou (longevity) for this hip little bar-resto in an old building on Hollywood Road. It is a welcome detour from the dull hangouts that lurk on the SoHo strip.

It's hidden away, so don't expect neon lights or signs directing you to the space on the seventh floor, the former home of private kitchen TBLS. You need to call beforehand to get the door code, which changes weekly.

Once out of the rattling lift, you are pulled with almost magnetic force to the bar's big drawcard, the rooftop terrace, with its cool graffiti mural of the three gods.

The decor has some cool nods to local culture, including mahjong-tile cushions and a bar tabletop lined with mahjong tiles.
