SUNBEAM COLLISION
SIU2 X HKCO4U
Sunbeam theatre in North Point, traditionally a venue for Cantonese opera, will host an unlikely crossover concert mixing traditional Chinese instruments with an electric organ, bass guitar, and drums.
is the Hong Kong premier of a year-long collaboration between fusion band SIU2, led by local musician Ng Cheuk-yin, and young virtuosi from the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, HKCO4U.
Ng, the mastermind behind the project, says: "I have had a decade of collaboration with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra in the form of music composition and arrangement, but never in this kind of crossover performance in my own musical style."
The versatile composer says the upcoming performance will add a new dimension to traditional Chinese music and "play with a groove that moves you to dance".
