New restaurant Braza Churrascaria - the flavours of Brazil
The steakhouse offers a taste of South America in the Lan Kwai Fong space formerly occupied by Peruvian restaurant Mayta.
Peruvian restaurant Mayta in Lan Kwai Fong has closed, and the space has transformed into (tel: 2790 0928). The interior hasn't changed much, except for a large buffet table in the middle of the dining area.
They were still sorting out a few kinks when we dined there. They serve a set meal for HK$388 plus 10 per cent per person, although desserts and drinks are extra.
From the appetiser selection, we liked the deep-fried banana and chicken fritters and the deliciously gooey melted provolone cheese (above), but the stir-fried pork with mushroom and bak choi was tasteless.
After appetisers, diners are encouraged to graze at the buffet table that features salads, fruits and hot dishes before returning to their seat for giant skewers of roast meat and prawns that are sliced table side by staff. We liked the various cuts of beef, particularly the tender, juicy flank steak that was cooked medium rare, and the succulent prawns.
For dessert, the cocada (HK$88) was a solid, bland coconut mousse. The pudim (HK$88) - quinoa pudding, condensed milk flan and poached figs - was better, and we liked the refreshing lemon-lime sorbet.
Wash it down with caipirinha (HK$88), in various flavours such as lime and passion fruit.
