- We look back at his early roles, his breakout appearance, his turn as a director and his work with heavy hitters Choi Min-sik and Ma Dong-seok

Currently on screens as the playfully named Detective Jang Nan-gam (Nan-gam means toy in Korean) in the Netflix series A Killer Paradox, Son Suk-ku has enjoyed an explosive rise in popularity over the last few years.
Son began his screen acting career with bit parts comparatively late – in his early 30s – but his cool demeanour and the brooding intensity he can convey on screen quickly seduced figures in the industry, who cast him in some of the most memorable screen roles of recent years.
Born in South Korea, Son emigrated to North America during middle school and continued his studies there, right through to university. He then studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to become a documentary filmmaker.
His first screen role was a bit part in the erotic thriller Scarlet Innocence. His first big part followed in the indie film Black Stone, which he appeared in when he was 33.
