Korean screen siren Han Hyo-joo is celebrating 20 years in the entertainment business after being discovered in a teenage beauty pageant back in 2003.
A major name in both films and dramas, Han is back on screens this summer in Moving, her biggest project to date. The Disney+ superhero series is the costliest Korean production yet, with a reported budget of 65 billion won (US$48.5 million) for its 20 episodes.
The show is filled with action, to which Han is no stranger, but what has viewers talking is her part as the bespectacled mother of a high-school-age teenager.
Then again, Han has long relished taking on challenges, in both big-budget and low-budget projects.
Born to an air force officer and an elementary-school teacher in 1987, Han grew up in Cheongju, a town in central South Korea. Hinting at the action roles she would later become known for, she excelled at sport when she was in school, including track and field events and volleyball.
