If you, your friends or loved ones have joined the meat-free masses, you may be wondering how to satisfy holiday hunger on a plant-based diet.
Here are some of the tempting festive meals and food gifts on offer in Hong Kong this year.
Hampers satisfy traditional cravings, raw hunger
Popular meat-free dining and grocery chain Green Common has ready-made bundles for the holiday season, including generously packed hampers.

The HK$888 “Love from Green Santa Hamper” features vegan Christmas favourites including panettone, a barista blend of almond milk, handmade gingerbread biscuits, strawberry-flavoured gelatin-free marshmallows and pink Himalayan salt.
A wholesome and raw gift is the “Winter Premium X’mas Veggie Bouquet” with six (HK$418) or eight (HK$518) varieties of fresh produce sourced from a local farm. Foodcraft, which also hosts vegan-friendly culinary skills classes at its Kennedy Town location, has prepared seasonal hampers to treat the non-meat eaters in your circle.
The HK$1,798 version of the vegan and organic gift includes a sourdough panettone, gluten-free Christmas biscuits in a jar, plenty of raw fare including sprouted walnut pesto, fermented mustard caviar, and almond butter, plus coconut yogurt and a chocolate pudding.

Eat, stretch, flex combo
Pilates and yoga studio Flex Studio and health store Food For Life have teamed up to offer healthy holiday hampers. They include bodycare and bath goodies, healthy treats and a gift voucher (valued at HK$760) for two Flex Pilates or group classes.

Holiday high tea indulgence
Take a relaxing afternoon break at The Cakery. Its delicate vegan tea set has small morsels in an advent calendar-style presentation. Expect teddy bear-shaped chiffon mini-cakes, an Impossible burger and golden raisin-accented scones among other delicious surprises. HK$294 for one or HK$588 for two, plus 10 per cent service charge.

At Fivelements Habitat’s plant-based cuisine venue Sakti Elixir, the holiday specials include an afternoon tea set. Options include charcoal roasted oolong, honey fragranced red tea or a temple gate Shou Puerh brew. The accompanying treats vary daily, but may include a warm polenta citrus cake or Brittany shortbread with strawberry and green tea cream. This HK$108 festive set is available until December 31 from noon to 6pm.

Memorable meals that give meat a miss
For highbrow fare, turn to innovative plant-based kitchen Nectar, formerly Grassroots Pantry, in Sheung Wan.
Chef and restaurateur Peggy Chan has developed multiple menus for the holiday season, including a festive à la carte menu, listing dishes such as Christmas dolmades – vine leaves stuffed with brown rice, shiitake bacon, chestnut and sage, served with cranberry sauce (HK$98). For mains, consider the Christmas dinner pie centred with braised cabbage, tofu sausage stuffing and morel mushrooms (HK$208), or a cutlet and gravy dish featuring hedgehog mushrooms, sweet potato mash and beetroot slaw (HK$258).

Casual, healthy and enviro-friendly nosh
Mana’s three outlets in Central, Sheung Wan and Wan Chai offer vegan “fast slow food” in an eco-friendly and responsible manner under a “zero waste” mantra. Treat yourself or loved ones to a sought-after flatbread with a choice of more than 30 toppings, from avocado to zucchini, wrapped in biodegradable and compostable paper (HK$90-$95 for a whole, $50 for a half). Or try a signature burger, soup, dip or salad, and don’t leave without dessert. Dine in the rustic, cosy quarters, or take away to augment your holiday meal.
