How is your Lunar New Year preparation going? There is still time to stock up on gifts, catch a big art exhibition or do an outdoor yoga class this weekend before the festivities begin. Here is our weekly list of options to consider.
1. Designer Mart at Commaa
Are you well stocked up on festive food for Lunar New Year yet?
If not, head to the Designer Mart hosted at Sheung Wan’s Commaa to peruse the best local treats to fill your pantry and prosperity boxes.
Held from today until January 28, the market features unique products from home-grown brands.
They include locally grown shiso and ginger tea from Loco Farms; salted fish mead from Drink Like a Fish; locally distilled gin from Two Moons; nut butters from The Nutter Company; bean-to-bar chocolate bars from Slok Chocolate; and auspicious canned abalone from Hoi Mei Tan.
Commaa will also serve festive drinks, while Hearth Yakiniku by Atum, a restaurant that is taking part in the fair, will serve comforting oden all weekend long.

2. King Fook x WWF-Hong Kong Panda Collection

Hong Kong’s King Fook Jewellery has collaborated with environmental group WWF-Hong Kong to launch a Meng Meng Panda Collection.
The collection includes necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets, and customers who buy pieces will receive a WWF panda keychain, while stocks last.
To add some fun, a panda guessing game will be held until February 9, for which customers at King Fook’s store in Pedder Street, Central, can guess the number of plush toys inside a transparent display box.
The first 50 to guess the correct answer will receive a WWF panda keychain and a limited-edition magnet from King Fook Jewellery.

3. Cézanne and Renoir Looking at the World
A major exhibition at the Hong Kong Museum of Art has just opened, featuring 52 works by Paul Cézanne and Pierre-Auguste Renoir from the Musée de l’Orangerie and Musée d’Orsay in Paris.

These two giants of Impressionist art, who were close friends, are widely considered to be pioneers of modern art.
The curators are eager to bring out how their relationship influenced their practices, as well as how they captured the dramatic changes that faced their world in the late 19th century. Unmissable.

4. Happyend
An inner-city high school becomes the testing ground for an intrusive new security system in Happyend, the debut feature from Japanese-American filmmaker Neo Sora.


Through the prism of this institution, the film observes the strengthening grip of an authoritarian regime as anxiety builds over an impending earthquake, and widespread malaise among the adolescent community is quashed with an iron fist.
Students Yuta (Hayato Kurihara) and Kou (Yukito Hidaka) are best friends and founders of the school music club. When caught sneaking into a nightclub, Yuta is let off with a slapped wrist, but as Kou is Korean, the police immediately give him grief, even questioning the legitimacy of his Japanese residency.
When the boys pull an elaborate prank on their corrupt principal (Shiro Sano), upending his luxury sports car in the school courtyard, the faculty fights back by installing state-of-the-art surveillance cameras around campus.

5. Celebrate health under the stars
Tune into your mind and body before the start of the Lunar New Year in an outdoor hatha yoga class on Sunday evening with instructor Catherine Kiss.
Kiss will guide participants into a warming flow with strengthening and stretching movements and postures to energise the body.

The class will end with a singing bowl meditation to bring peace and tranquillity, promoting relaxation and a restful mind.
Afterwards, enjoy healthy snacks and home-made, organic kombucha, a power drink filled with nutrients and gut-healing bacteria.
The event runs from 7pm to 8.30pm at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park, by the fountain near the palm trees.
The cost is HK$145 per person, HK$200 for two people. Bring your own mat or rent one for HK$50.
