Michelin Guide Singapore 2024: 11 new Bib Gourmand awards for value meals dished out

  • Michelin’s Bib Gourmand award recognise places, in Singapore mostly hawker food stalls, that serve good-value-for-money meals

The Michelin Guide Singapore 2024 has awarded Bibs Gourmand to 81 restaurants, hawker food and street food stalls, 11 of them for the first time. The awards recognise the good-value food they serve.

Announced on June 18, ahead of the unveiling of the full Michelin Guide selection on June 25, the list features nine new entrants and two that have been moved from the Michelin Selected category.

The total of 81 Bib Gourmand awards is two more than in 2023.

“When talking about Singapore’s cuisine, one cannot overlook the integral role of hawker centres. These are not only a part of everyday life for the common people, but also a microcosm of the Lion City’s multi-ethnic society,” said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide.

“Our inspectors have discovered rich cultural traditions that include Thai, Italian, Indian, and Penang cuisines, in addition to the long-serving heritage hawkers that continue to serve up their much-loved recipes, all at incredible value.”

Jalan Sultan Prawn Mee is one of the two venues that moved up from the Michelin Selected category.

Having operated for more than seven decades, its specialities are the dry and soup versions of prawn mee, a classic Singapore street-food dish.

The dry version is made with aromatic sambal and fried scallions, while its soup-based counterpart has an umami-flavoured prawn broth.

The other place to move up from the Michelin Selected category, Ru Ji Kitchen, consists of two adjoining hawker stalls that sell noodles in soup, or dry noodles with minced pork, pork balls, or fish balls.

The bouncy, freshly made fish balls have become a favourite among diners.

The nine new additions to the list epitomise the variety of the food served in Singapore. Several are traditional hawker stalls.

Among these are Chef Kang’s Noodle House, which specialises in noodle soup with wontons and char siu; Delhi Lahori, a hawker stall that serves crispy naan and curries; Jason Penang Cuisine, another stall which focuses on Penang noodle dishes such as char kway teow (stir-fried flat rice noodles) and assam laksa (sour and spicy fish soup); and MP Thai (Vision Exchange), which has an all-Thai team of chefs.
