If you thought Hawaiian pizza was divisive, then you haven’t been paying close attention to the myriad wacky toppings that have graced Pizza Hut’s pies over the years.

For the winter season in Hong Kong, the brand has set internet tongues hissing with the launch of a unique snake soup pizza, created in collaboration with venerable snake soup restaurant Ser Wong Fun, which has been in the same family for four generations.

The partnership has delivered two pizzas, the other being a preserved Chinese sausage pie – lap cheong is commonly eaten during the colder months. It is getting considerably less attention, and understandably so. Sausage on a pizza is not a surprise, whether it’s fresh or dried.

But snake? And to go one step further, snake soup? Now that’s a twist.

Snake soup, a dish originally served in Guangdong, southern China, is steeped in tradition and has a history going back more than 2,000 years. Considered a seasonal delicacy, it is served in winter.
