Hong Kong’s best milk tea, delicious dim sum and fresh seafood – an entrepreneur’s top picks for where to take visitors to eat in the city
- When it comes to Hong Kong food, entrepreneur Selene Xie thinks of four things: cha chaan teng tea cafes, hotpot, dim sum and seafood
- She shares her favourite spots for all four, as well as the place in Sicily, Italy, that left her with ‘a major food coma’ and to which she would love to return
Selene Xie is the founder and chief vision officer of The Rebel Mums, a new clothing brand for women who are mothers. She spoke to Andrew Sun.
I am a comfort food type of person. I am also a meat eater. I don’t like veggies. My favourite foods are sushi, fried food, noodles, wagyu beef and chocolate chip cookies. When I think of Hong Kong food, I think of these four things – cha chaan teng, hotpot, seafood and dim sum.
Another place I always go is Shun Hing Restaurant (5 Ormsby Street, Tai Hang. Tel: 2576 6577), especially for their signature char siu pork and egg rice, which comes with their home-made soy sauce. Very delicious. They make the best milk tea, too.
There are many places for hotpot, but I absolutely love Lau Haa Hot Pot Restaurant (Shop A, B/F & G/F, Block A, 441 Lockhart Road, Causeway Bay. Tel: 2214 9388) for their thick chicken fish maw broth.
