Mouthing Off | Delete Deliveroo, Foodpanda apps from your phone – it is high time people started dining in restaurants again instead of ordering in

KeeTa is currently in its test mode, serving only the Mong Kok and Tai Kok Tsui area in Kowloon, but the company plans to roll out to the rest of the city by the end of the year.
Launched by mainland Chinese tech giant Meituan, KeeTa is bound to be a formidable challenger to Foodpanda and Deliveroo – which will be good for consumers and might even be better for restaurants, since the two major established players are notorious for restrictive criteria and high commission rates.
Food providers, especially smaller single outlets, regularly complain about being hamstrung by the platforms’ rules and exorbitant charges. Last week, Foodpanda and Deliveroo agreed to amend their terms after the Competition Commission – an independent statutory body in Hong Kong – warned they may be breaching anti-monopoly laws.
The fact is most orders result in very little profit – but they cannot just say no to these delivery services as they risk losing all business from stay-at-home diners.
