It’s hard to believe that it’s September already. Where did the summer go? It’s like we’ve all been forced to be Rip Van Winkles for six months.
As Covid-19 infections decline in Hong Kong, the city is slowly opening up again. Diners are once more allowed to indulge in the overlooked pleasure of going out for dinner – as long as we finish by 9pm.
Finally, Hongkongers can dine somewhere other than in front of the TV. What a joy to book a table and have beautifully plated food brought to you; to dine carefree – even be messy – and not have do the washing up yourself. Even if you spill red wine on the tablecloth, you don’t have to clean it. Just leave an extra HK$20 tip so the maitre d’ doesn’t think you’re a monster.
Once more, you and your food snob friends can nitpick over details such as whether your steak was really medium rare or egregiously medium, debate the qualifications of a sommelier and argue about “did the Grenache really go with my sea bass?”

But can everything really go back to normal?
