Newly opened Asado Argentinian Steakhouse in Central: excellent appetisers add value for money
- The decor is basic and the dishes slightly expensive, but the food and service are great
- The meaty main courses are filling, but there’s not much for non meat lovers
“I hope they’re busier during the week,” my guest said as we left Asado Argentinian Steakhouse, where we were the only customers on a Saturday night. I hope so too, because the restaurant offers good food and friendly service in a very basic room.
It’s not a cheap place, but if you share several appetisers and one steak between you, you can get out for about HK$400 per person.
Which is what we should have done, because the appetisers were excellent.
Pork and beef chorizo (HK$128) was fantastic – two fat sausages that were roughly textured, meaty and fatty, with crisp casings.
Thick, moist sliced sweetbreads (HK$188) came on toast points, topped with lime and fresh tomato criolla and drizzled with thickened balsamic vinegar. My first instinct was to pick it up in my hand and eat it, but it was much tidier (and easier) to use a knife and fork. Next time, I’ll order the morcilla (blood sausage, HK$78) as my starter and the sweetbreads as a main.
