I spend more time in cafes than restaurants, especially at weekends, when I need a quiet place with caffeine where I can get work done. I’m an adventurous eater who likes to explore different experiences and I appreciate places with rich, authentic, traditional dishes with attentive service.

I’ve been a fan of Soul Food Mahanakorn in Bangkok since before they partnered with Black Sheep Restaurants to open Soul Food Thai (26-28 Elgin Street, Mid-Levels, tel: 2177 3544). It’s one of the best places for authentic Thai dishes. It’s best to go with a group for the sharing style dishes. The yum makrua yao (grilled eggplant with duck egg) and Isan grilled chicken are must-tries.

Omotesando Koffee (shop G24-25, Lee Tung Avenue, 200 Queen’s Road East, Wan Chai, tel: 2601 3323) is the first and only overseas outlet for the famous Tokyo coffee establishment. It has a minimalist interior design and the Japanese barista’s iced cappuccino is my favourite.

Nam Kee Spring Roll Noodle (various locations, including 1/F-3/F San Kei Tower, 56-58 Yee Wo Street, Causeway Bay, tel: 2576 3721) is my comfort food option for Hong Kong-style soup noodles. Get the signature spicy pork and spring roll noodle, it’s super affordable and perfect if you’re in a hurry.

Satay Inn (three branches, including Basement, City Garden hotel, 9 City Garden Road, North Point, tel: 2806 4938) is one of the best neighbourhood gems for authentic Hainan chicken rice and bak kut teh.
