Baz Luhrmann's seems to be on everyone's lips lately. Perhaps that should be hips, with all the Prada and Miu Miu costumes for the female cast. Not to mention themed collections, hotel suites, drinks and parties.
Before we get lost in all this homage to the Roaring '20s, it is worth nothing that the first film, starring Robert Redford, was responsible for making straight men consider wearing a three-piece pink suit. If there was any man who could make baby pink look masculine it was Redford.
That suit was created by Ralph Lauren who has since been making Gatsby-esque looks every other season or so, as with spring's beige cotton suit (above: jacket HK$42,500; trousers HK$5,400; waistcoat HK$4,500) worn with tan/white spectator shoes.
In the new film, Brooks Brothers made the costumes worn by Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays the title role, including, of course, a pink suit. The suit made its way to the label's Gatsby-themed collection along with a boater hat with a striped ribbon and a greyhound walking stick. Or skip the pink suit and opt for a white linen version paired with a bow tie or pale striped tie to look channel the modern dandy.
