Dapper has become a byword for stylish menswear. Men - more mature ones and those barely out of their teens - are looking to Hollywood actors such as Cary Grant and Montgomery Clift and royals such as the Duke of Windsor for inspiration. This is a refreshing change from all the drop-crotch trousers, chunky spiked brogue shoes and mishmash of prints seen in the past few seasons.
To channel your inner gentlemen, you'll need to take on the most challenging of fabrics - the Glen plaid, or Prince of Wales check.
It's important to pay close attention to the size of the plaid, its colouring and the fit. Choose the wrong colour and you'll end up looking like you're wearing a golfing outfit.
It's best to stay with tighter patterns, too, because large plaid checks can be overwhelming and are not friendly to those with more rotund figures. And you need one that's tailored well to your body to make the suit modern.
Plaid works best in classic shades, like Ascot Chang's one in blue and white (right, HK$11,600), or in brown with shades of chocolate and red as seen at Hugo Boss (top right, HK$10,000).
For smaller doses of plaid look for it on newsboy caps such as Ermenegildo Zegna's (above left, HK$4,150), or on a cashmere scarf such as this one from Brunello Cucinelli (below left, HK$4,995).
