A chance encounter brought The Anthology, a Hong Kong-based bespoke tailoring house established only five years ago, to the red carpets of Hollywood’s Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Oscars earlier this year.
Specifically, it was one between English actor Bill Nighy and The Anthology’s co-founder Buzz Tang Wing-fung. Their meeting, Tang tells the Post, was “like the Spider-Man meme – two guys, both dressed in tailoring, in the heart of Mayfair [in London] on a Sunday afternoon”.
Nighy and Tang were crossing a street in opposite directions when the actor reached out to Tang, a stranger, to express appreciation for what he was wearing. After exchanging a few pleasantries, Nighy said he loved discussing suits and gave Tang his number. This was back in 2019.
“That’s how our friendship started. Bill has been a huge advocate of ours ever since and a very supportive client privately,” says Tang, who splits his time between London and Hong Kong.
