If you’re one of the millions who watched hit Netflix period drama series Bridgerton, then you’ll understand wedding fashion in 2022.

Created by Chris Van Dusen and produced by Shonda Rhimes, the period drama, based on the book series of the same name by Julia Quinn and back for a second season, follows the lives of eight siblings and their romantic escapades during the Regency era (1811 to 1820).

The era in which the romantic show is set, in combination with its extravagant settings and costumes, has given rise to the fashion trend known as “Regencycore”.

Picture corsets, empire dresses, baby-doll tops, capes, Mary Jane shoes, crystal jewellery and pearl hair bands.

The series has even sparked a social media trend, with TikTok users showing how to recreate Regency-era gowns and elaborate hairstyles from scratch.
