‘I’m a vault’: the entertainment news publisher celebrities can trust – 90 per cent of what Jared Eng knows never makes it to justjared.com
- A churchy teenager who came late to pop culture, Jared Eng quickly developed an obsessive interest in films, TV and shows, and began writing about them
- Now 38, he has a team writing for his entertainment news website justjared.com, has styled some of the young Hollywood set, and is weighing new ventures
Jared Eng, founder of one of the most popular entertainment news websites, posts celebrity news on his site – justjared.com – around the clock.
No one could have ever imagined his current pop culture profession, though. Growing up in Queens, New York, Eng never watched movies or television, and didn’t listen to pop music.
Things started to change for Eng when he entered Columbia University as a computer science major, where he was exposed to the delights of MTV. He started bingeing on shows, downloading movies and waiting in line for tickets to Broadway shows.
“I fell in love with the elements that were missing in my life as a kid,” says Eng. “I started obsessing over them.” He was so enamoured with what he was discovering, he started penning his opinions on what he was watching, and sending them out to friends, foreshadowing his future as an entertainment blogger.
