Weather permitting, here are our recommendations for some of the best things to see, do and eat in Hong Kong this weekend.
1. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
“Death is hard,” complains Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) in Tim Burton’s sequel to his 1988 fantasy comedy Beetlejuice.
There is plenty of it in this light-to-the-touch tale, starting with the funeral of Lydia’s father, Charles, who has died in a bizarre plane crash/shark attack.
A psychic mediator with her own ghost-hunting television show, Lydia grew up in Winter Hill, where she encountered Michael Keaton’s afterlife spook Beetlejuice as a teenager. Now she must return to her quaint hometown to bury her father.


But she senses the wisecracking ghoul is back and out to cause trouble.
Burton, who has not made a feature film since 2019’s live-action Dumbo, seems excited to be back on familiar terrain. Read our full review.

2. Ikigai Causeway Bay 3rd Year Anniversary
If you are seeking shelter from bad weather brought about by Super Typhoon Yagi this Saturday, or just looking for a peaceful, happy space, drop by Ikigai’s pop-up party to celebrate its third year in business in Causeway Bay.
The yoga and meditation studio’s name is taken from the Japanese word meaning “a reason for being”. It opened during the Covid-19 pandemic, offering a respite for yogis new and old to pause, pose – and breathe.
All are welcome to join, to tour the studio, and to try some challenges including holding the “chair” pose, taking a short yoga quiz and leaving a message on the Wishing Tree. Collect “stamps” on your Ikigai passport for a chance to win prizes.

Expect games, music and refreshments. Doors open at 4pm; festivities end after 5.30pm.

3. Cornerstone
Inspired by the flavours of a recent trip he took to Western Australia, chef Neal Ledesma is updating Cornerstone’s menu to include plenty of seafood items, with items like grilled Fremantle octopus and a pan-fried “Humpty Doo” barramundi sourced from an Australian sustainable farm.
Lamingtons – an Australian sponge cake coated in chocolate and rolled in coconut flakes – are also available, but with a twist of mango jam and pandan Chantilly cream.

4. Star Nest Music Festival

The phenomenal line-up of this two-day outdoor Asian music festival includes K-pop acts CL, Sunmi, HyunA, Kiss of Life, NCT Wish and Treasure, and Taiwanese hip-hop artists OZI, Marz23 and J.Sheon.
Korea’s Street Woman Fighter 2 dance competition champion, Bebe, will also make an appearance.
Performances take place from 4-10pm on September 7 and September 8 at AXA x Wonderland in the West Kowloon Cultural District.

5. Zootage pet-tracking leather charms
Social media is full of posts from people desperately looking for their missing pets. That is where Hong Kong brand Zootage can help.

Zootage sells pendants fitted with near-field communication (NFC) chips that contain pet owners’ phone contact and social media details. Anyone who finds a lost pet can trace the owners via the chip.
The cute handcrafted leather tags come in shapes depicting breeds from corgis and border collies to poodles and Pomeranians. There is even one for mongrels.
Sustainability is also important to the brand, with the pendants made from scraps left over from the manufacture of handbags.
Zootage also donates a portion of its proceeds to animal charities in the city.
Pet lovers can check out Zootage products at the “Fly to the Moon” pop-up market at K11 Musea in Tsim Sha Tsui on September 7 and 8, from 12pm-9pm.
