Spotify’s 2019 music wrap reveals the most streamed songs, albums and artists in Hong Kong, with singer Eason Chan coming out on top as the city’s most streamed artist of the year.

Each year, music streaming giant Spotify’s “Wrapped” campaign looks back at the songs, albums and artists each of its 248 million users worldwide listened to during the past 12 months.

2019 was a big year for Eason Chan Yik-shun, who was Hong Kong’s most streamed artist, on both the local and global lists.

Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou came second on the global list, with mainland China-born Canto-pop singer Hins Cheung King-hin coming in at number three. Cheung was second on the list of most-streamed Hong Kong artists, with Joey Yung Cho-yee taking third place.

For a third straight year, Chan and Yung have kept their crowns as Hong Kong’s most streamed male and female artists.

Known for his dynamic stage presence and versatile voice, Chan, 45, is often seen as the successor to Canto-pop “king” Jacky Cheung Hok-yau. Chan remains one of Hong Kong’s bestselling singer-songwriters.
His fans, however, were left disappointed when, last month, Chan cancelled a 25-night run of shows that were due to be held at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Hung Hom from December 9 to January 7. Hung Hom, site of Polytechnic University, was badly affected by the ongoing anti-government protests in the city. The announcement came soon after Chou cancelled a long-anticipated concert due to be held at Hong Kong Disneyland this month.
