Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to star as superhero in new comic book series
- Comic book Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force will portray the youngest woman ever elected to US Congress as a sassy superhero
- Its cover shows her, smartphone in hand, in a defiant pose in front of the US Capitol
Clad like a warrior woman, beckoning her enemies with her war cry of “New party, who dis?”, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has made the leap from the United States Congress to the pages of a comic book.
Out in May from independent US press Devil’s Due Comics – which is quick to point out that Ocasio-Cortez, also known as AOC, has not endorsed the project – Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force is, according to its publisher, a “satire that takes aim at Washington” and “spares no one”.
Ocasio-Cortez, 29, is the youngest woman ever elected to the US Congress and has become an unofficial leader of the newest class of House Democrats. She will be portrayed as a sassy superhero in the comic.
Its cover shows the new congresswoman, smartphone in hand, in a defiant pose in front of the US Capitol; a variant cover replaces her white suit and phone with a superhero outfit and sword.

Ocasio-Cortez has previously revealed herself to be a comic fan, taking time out from launching her Green New Deal in January – which she hopes will help fight climate change – to quote Watchmen creator Alan Moore in a tweet to her detractors: “None of you understand. I’m not locked up in here with YOU. You’re locked up in here with ME.”
