Chinese official CCTV has said that Donald Trump and Xi Jinping agreed on a trade war truce, under which the US would not implement tariffs of up to 25 per cent on US$300 billion of Chinese -- virtually all the Chinese goods not now subject to tariffs -- while trade negotiations to end the trade conflict would resume.  This confirms the exclusive story from the South China Morning Post and POLITICO published on Thursday.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump wrapped up their high-stakes summit at the G20 in Osaka, Japan, earlier with the American leader saying the outcome was “better than expected”, and China saying the US has agreed not to impose any further tariffs on its goods.
The closed-door meeting lasted 80 minutes, 10 minutes less than had been scheduled.
When asked about the talks, Trump said it was a “very, very good meeting, better than expected”.
“We’re right back on track,” he said, without elaborating. The two sides are expected to put out more detailed statements later.

The US president begins by praising the 2019 G20 summit and thanks Japan for hosting the event. 
He will head to South Korea next to meet with President Moon Jae-in, and maybe North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Donald Trump always uses superlative in his speech. This time, he said Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe hosted the G20 summit beautifully.
On North Korea, he said the North has not fired nuclear and missiles, and released American kept in the North.

Meng is currently imprisoned in Canada awaiting a hearing after the US requested to extradite her for trial on allegations she violated US sanctions against Iran.

Wang Xiaolong, the special envoy of G20 affairs of the Foreign Ministry and Director General of the Department of International Economic Affairs, was asked if the US has lifted its restriction on Huawei. He is holding a press conference at the same time as Trump. 
Wang said he is not involved in the meeting and did not have much to share.

But he added: "We will welcome it if they can do what they have said. Huawei is a private company and its technology is at pioneering position".

Trump says that a handshake with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un "could happen tomorrow". Trump said he gets along with Kim, who follows his tweets.

The reform of the WTO is good for the two nations to properly settle their relationship, he says at a press conference taking place at the same time as Trump.

"I like our companies selling things to others ... very complex things. These are not things easy to make ... our companies were very upset, but we are allowing them. So if it is not national security issue, we are allowing them to sell.

Trump defended his decision not to attack Iran after it shot down an unarmed US surveillance drone.
He said he called off the strike he had ordered earlier because he feared it would kill up 150 Iranians.

Trump says he will have a meeting Tuesday about talking Huawei off the Commerce Deparatment's entities list, which requires US companies to get prior approval before selling components to the Chinese company.
Trump notes that he already lifted sanctions on Chinese technology firm ZTE after Chinese President Xi Jinping called and asked him to and after ZTE paid a US$1.2 billion fine and reshuffled its board of directors.

"I took ZTE off, if you remember. That was a personal deal. President Xi called me and asked me for a personal favor, which I considered very important. His is a leader of a major country... And there are 85,000 employees who were out of business. And he agreed to pay US$1.2 billion penalties and other things including management changes."

Trump confirmed he has agreed with Chinese president Xi Jinping that the US will not implement new tariffs on US$300 billion of Chinese imports "at least for the time being" and that negotiations to end their year-long trade war would resume.
Trump said that US companies could sell to Chinese telecommunications equipment giant Huawei again as long as the sales did not involve equipment that threatened US national security. This effectively ends the current ban on US company sales to Huawei. However, Trump said the decision on whether to take Huawei off the Commerce Department's entities list would be left to later, adding he will have a meeting on Tuesday on the subject. "We are leaving Huawei towards the end. We are seeing what goes with the trade agreement," suggesting that fully lifting the ban on Huawei would rest on a deal to end the trade war. 
Trump said he and Xi did not discuss the case of Sabrina Meng, the Huawei chief financial officer who is imprisoned in Canada awaiting a hearing on whether she will be extradited to the US on charges she violated American sanctions against Iran.
