My Take | How 2 world-leading ‘democracies’ really fight ‘terrorism’
- America is not complicit in Israel’s war on the Palestinians; it’s an active participant
As the world’s greatest democratic nation continues to supply Israel with devastating weapons to carry out its war on the Palestinian people, it is also planning ahead towards the more humanitarian phase of the campaign – the “peaceful” and “voluntary” transfer of Gazans out of the wasteland called the Gaza Strip.
A not-so-secret plan has been circulated among top United States lawmakers to tie US foreign aid to Arab countries with their willingness to accept Palestinians, according to Israeli news reports.
But for now, the active killing phase continues. Having bombed north Gaza to smithereens, the Israeli military will now move to the south, where it told more than a million Gazans to take shelter. Are they supposed to move back to the north, considering they are trapped and have nowhere else to go?
Let’s consider how Washington has been aiding and abetting Israel. According to a report in The Wall Street Journal whose editorial pages have been cheerleading the killings, most of which involve women and children, US weapon transfers included: more than 5,400 Mk84 2,000-pound warhead bombs, more than 5,000 Mk82 unguided or “dumb” bombs, about 3,000 JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munitions) guidance kits for converting unguided bombs into precision-guided ones, about 1,000 GBU-39 small-diameter bombs and 100 BLU-109 “bunker buster” bombs.
According to an earlier report from Bloomberg, other weapons included: 2,000 Hellfire missiles for Apache attack helicopters, and an array of mortars and ammo, including 36,000 rounds of 30mm cannon ammunition, 1,800 of M141 bunker-buster munitions and 3,500 night-vision devices.
But these may be just the tip of the iceberg, because Washington has been hush-hush about what it has been sending to Israel. Well, given America’s awful involvement, wouldn’t you try to keep quiet about it, too?
About 70 per cent of the almost 16,000 killed in Gaza so far by the Israeli military are women and children. I ask you to imagine what those US-made weapons can do to a child’s body. Well, I can’t either.
