Not that long ago, the metaverse was seen as a futuristic concept. Sci-fi films such as The Matrix suggested a future human world blended with virtual reality.
However, it has become a here-and-now idea. The technology is already used in applications and immersive video games, allowing people to be just a virtual reality headset away from true-to-life cyberspace in which they connect with one another and build their own world.
There is little doubt the metaverse is about the reshape the world for future generations. What opportunities and challenges does the technology bring, and how can parents prepare themselves and their children?
The metaverse is a shared three-dimensional virtual space supporting socialisation and interactions. The immersive experiences it brings can be game-changers for how people engage in social activities.
With technological refinement, the level of realness and naturalness will continue to rise. Eventually, we will no longer rely on our phones or computers but instead use headsets and our bodies to enter immersive spaces for virtual reality experiences.
